Blog To Be Rich : book report

I did my report on a book written by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett titled "ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income, Third Edition". It was an extensive read with amazing pointers that might just help me further my writing!

If you are like most people, you would entertain the option of being able to work from home for a living in a heartbeat. In this book, ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure income (third edition), I was able to delve into the concepts that could eventually get me there. As many know, there are numerous ways to earn that money, but few ways are on the desirable side of things. You need to look at it as a whole when going head first into a choice like using the internet to make your money.

On the topic of blogs the most important thing is to find a topic of interest, or a Niche as mentioned in this book. The problem with a lot of bloggers is that they love writing but they are more interested in writing what people want to read. This works at first but, surely, readers lose interest and move on to the next best article. You don’t want to be that writer that just under par, you need people to learn about you and what you love to write about. So sit back and take the time to gather your ideas and stay true to you when you make your blog.

Within this book, I learned that there are a few different ways to earn your income using a blog. To start it off you could go the advertisement route, which would clutter your page and possibly ruin the traffic to your site. This was said to be a dangerous method due to losing the fan base all because you advertise too much. Another great way was called “Freelance Blogging” which meant that you would be a hired out writer for other blog sources. So on top of your own blog, if you are holding one of your own, you can also sell yourself out for writing on topics others need on their sites.

To even start to be able to make all that desirable money, you need traffic. If there is no one visiting your blog, you are headed nowhere fast. You need to be able to write and interact with your traffic and make them want to come back or, as the book referred it as, stick around. This concept is labeled as “The Sticky Blog” idea, where if you interact with questions and good topics you will have people that want to stay around. Once you gather this group of sticky people is when you can start to gain reputation among other readers and even other bloggers. That is how your name can start to float about the higher ranks of blogging. To tag along with this topic, you need to be up to date with most all of the social media options. A good way to stay up and active with your readers is to involve yourself with media, such as twitter. That way you have more than one way to connect with the people that are following your blog.

The reading also focused on making sure that what you are writing about is fresh, not something used and out of date. This idea was referred to as making your blog to not be like fashion, it isn’t fleeting or a bandwagon. You need to write about new and interesting things that people will care about; issues that people sometimes shy away from. That is what blogging is for, expression. When you get to this point where you need to keep people around even if topics are thin, make sure you keep up on all of your feedback. This lets your readers know that you are still around and working on your blog. Otherwise, you might just wash out all the work you have put into it so far.

This book was a great read, especially because I am an avid literature buff. I truly enjoy writing and responding on my class blog and that is just an assignment. All the ideas within this book were good, some were obvious and unneeded while others were quite astonishing. I would suggest this book for people that look to further their public writing skills, even if it isn’t a blog. Imagine this advice for an author that publishes paperback books, the ideas within this book were completely valid for even that venue. The book is a bit extensive in some areas that weren’t needed, which made some points quite dull to read. Although there were many valid points on top of the excess reading that I will carry with me in any future writing I put myself to.

Zach: From then to now - Screencast

Time sure flies when you have kids, and I never would have guessed how fast that actually went if we didn't have Zach. To look back at day 1, bringing him home, floods me with memories from all the learning and growing that went on through the starting days. With all the firsts that happened, it is hard to choose which should be included in this cast but I managed to single it down to a few! From then to now not only has Zach changed in so many ways, but I have as well...as a father.

Please, enjoy the video.

Flickr Album is now up!

Watching this boy of ours grow up has been pretty incredible. I recently was asked, as most of you know already, to create a  slideshow on the Flickr website. I always like to post more recent pictures of my little man because I enjoy seeing the changes from back then to now. It is really amazing how much he has changed and a lot of it is so gradual that it is hard to see unless in photograph or video! So, with that said, I posted a few from this Halloween because it was his first real trick or treating session! He actually walked around with a group of kids and had such a blast. Also, another big landmark, I posted one of him with his new puppy! He loves those little dogs so much and has grown quite close to them already.  To see these changes from when he was just a little crawling critter is so astonishing. I love it!

This assignment has been a good experience with the photosharing. I have never really touched base on it other than Facebook, if that even counts as a sharing site. I enjoy the fact that I would be able to chronologically organize sets of photos for certain stages of Zach's growth! The pictures here are simply touching the surface of what could actually be done. How cool is this site!?

Flu Season is upon us

Tis the season to try to ward off any unwanted illnesses, which isn't the easiest task when it comes to children! My wife and I always get Zach his shots but don't always have time to go for ourselves, oddly enough. So then we are stuck with lots of preventative care to worry about so that we don't bring something home to him. This year, all is well so far! I have had it but did not pass it on at all which was amazing because the way our schedules are ran, he is always with one of us over the other during work hours.

What are your ways to prevent sickness in the household? Or better yet, when you do have sick kids/adults what are your remedies?!

Zach and "Babies!"

As everyone knows from the last entry, our house was blessed with 9 baby puppies the other morning. Now we have introduced zach to the litter and BOY OH BOY is he obsessed with them! We have the puppies and the mom in the garage so all Zach will do is go up to the garage door and say "babies? c'mon! babies!" We were definitely nervous at first with the introduction but it went amazingly well.

We did it in three visits before he actually got to hold or touch any of them and I am so happy that he is gentle. He holds them and just keeps saying "babies...awww" and then will put them back, with toddler coordination haha. It is amazing how much toddlers/babies know about and we just are in the greyscale when it comes to these things. So much intelligence in these tiny bodies!

That about wraps that up. Signing off for today!

We have Puppies!

So! This is completely off of topic for this but I did mention somewhere that my female german shep was preggers! Well this morning at 6am she became a proud mommy of 9 puppies. She did great all on her own through it all because I was fast asleep. She ended up have 6 girls and 3 boys, all healthy and cute as can be.

Thats the momma with her babies! Shes so good at this :)

I just thought I would share this with you all! Have a good day!

First Babysitter

Ok, so today marks the first day (ever) that we have to have a babysitter for Zach. It may seem like I am just a bit crazed about this, but I just really don't know how to think about a person watching my son for me. Ever since he was born it was just Lisa (my wife) and I and we never asked for help. Not to say we didn't think people would do a good job, it isn't that at all!

From my standpoint I can protect him from many MANY things while I am there, but while I am at work and someone else is watching him....what will go down?! My son is a very hyper and active little man, of which is typical I am sure, and not everyone handles it the same. I understand this is just something I will have to go through and get used to but my goodness is it tough!

All you parents out there, I commend you for having this issues erased. On top of that: How did you get over it? Or were you never worried?

Random thought of my day because today is judgement day for this matter!

Do you have time?

Every day I feel as though I am challenged with the time of day. I know that I am definitely not alone, although it feels that way on some occasions. If you take a look at the day you lived just yesterday, there are always those moments that you know could have or should have gone differently. The thing that I notice most is that I seem to lose myself in school, which isn't a bad thing, making it hard to pay my son the attention he needs (or wants!).
When it comes down to it, you gotta do what you gotta do when it comes to responsibilities. And I am not even saying that kids take boat loads of time, all that I am saying is that sometimes the time is not available and things get left undone. With that being said, I find myself also putting school off to make sure that my son has me for the time he needs. Which then I ask myself if I even have time for school when my son is developing so rapidly and needed a bit more in depth attention!

It just makes you wonder if you are doing things right and for the best of your children. Which, I am SURE that everything is how it is supposed to be. The other quest is how do you keep yourself from wondering these things? Or are you the only one that thinks about the issues of time when it comes to raising kids?

I know that I would not change anything that I am doing, only because everything that I am working for is to secure my wife and sons health and living. There are motives behind the actions, and for those reasons you find yourself making worthwhile decisions and compromises that are both beneficial and harmful in ways.

Just make sure you are happy with you because you are doing what you can. I am still learning about all of this and I thought it might be interesting to see others opinions about the topic.

Kids with pets

Everyone seems to, what I am going to label as, over-protect their kids when it comes to interaction with pets. My son, Zachary, has grown up with my female German Shepard (Nikkitta) who is now a whopping 75lbs. Not only is she his protector, but he is hers as well. Those bonds that you see in movies like "Marley and Me" are real! That is, if you allow it to happen.
Dogs know what you teach them, as do your children. So, if while your pets and kids grow up together and you teach them the values of having each other around...then (in theory) everything will go smoothly. Of course nothing can go without hiccups! So be prepared to correct those bumps to create that smooth ride.

Whats his is hers and she will keep it!

That picture is from when Zach was only 3 months old (in 2010) and just learning to do the smallest of movements in his little play mat! It was exciting for not only us to watch but for his loyal pup as well. She was there for nearly every first that happened with Zach, and he knows it.
Even now Zach treats Kita (Nikkitta) like a person. If she is tired he pats her and says "aww sleep" and I wouldn't have this relationship any other way at all!
I guess this is just my note to parents to let your kids be kids, with boundaries of course, but they need to develop these ever so important relationships!

Lets kick it off!

Hey there everyone! I always felt like advice from other parents can greatly assist in raising kids, so this is my effort for people to help each other. This is the place for you if you want to toss ideas back and forth and see how others do things with raising their children. I personally have a 2 year old that is off the walls bonkers! So I need all the fun help and tips that people can offer.

                                   Lets have fun with this!

I will be the first to throw my toddler advice out on the table. My little man, Zach, started walking at 8months old which surprised my wife and I completely! So we had to quickly realize that baby proofing for this guy would be tough. We went through baby gates, baby corrals, and jumpers of which none could contain this kid! Now we have this handsome 2 year old that is ever so mischievous still! If anyone knows a good toddler proof door knob/handle, do let me know because he is the next Houdini!!!
